Travel Resumes

An Exciting Career in The Travel Industry

Are you permanently struck with the “Travel Bug”? You would love to spend all of your time traveling except your current job does not permit this? Well then what if you could combine your love for traveling while earning a higher income? You can do this very thing with a career in the travel industry.

The travel industry can offer an exciting career and allow you to earn a higher income. Before you start applying for travel jobs make sure your resume is up to par. Highlight key traits like an outgoing personality and demonstrate your passion for travel and recreation. The best way to do this is include a resume section highlighting the places you have traveled to. If you have not had the opportunity to visit many places due to budget and so forth you can create a section on travel books you have read. Both of these ideas will get the attention of any high profile travel agency.

Research The Travel Industry and Employer

There is no excuse in this day and age for not knowing a whole lot about the travel agency or tour company, whatever it is to which you are applying.  It’s easy to find, and when you are writing this cover letter, does the recipient want to be able to look at it and say “Yes, he or she actually did do some research and know what they’re talking about.”  Again, that’s going to make your Travel Resume, your cover letter stand out from all the rest of them.

Resume Format

Before you even begin, you should check whether the job description for the Travel position you are applying for.  A lot of times, job postings will have certain formats they would like to receive the Travel Resume in.  If you are applying for a travel job position, it’s always great to look at what the travel agencies are wanting in their candidates, and even try to mimic some of the language they use in their requirements on your Travel Resume.

Travel Experience

Something else to think about is thinking outside the box when it comes to the travel experience section.  Normally, that’s one of the hardest places that I find for students and alumni to start working on and it’s because we don’t always think that our experience is highly relatable.  Be thinking about, like I said achievements, projects that you’ve done at work.  Also be thinking outside the box in terms of it doesn’t have to be a paid position.  This might have been an unpaid internship that you were involved in.  It might have been a volunteer position.  It may also be a classroom project that was a very large project that you want to talk about.  A lot of times, I have students that are also talking about their student organization development.  Let’s say you were treasurer for one of your clubs, that’s a great thing to put underneath experience.  You probably had to email a lot of your club members.  You had to kind of help with fund raising.  You probably did a lot and achieved a lot of great skills there, so that’s something else to consider.

Awards and Languages

Oh lastly, don’t forget about demonstrating your track record of providing outstanding customer service, particularly in an outdoor setting. After all, the travel industry is all about customer service.

And do I need to remind you that any additional languages you speak are more than welcome and will help expand the customer base you will bring in for any employer and help you earn a better income.
